The sound of snoring occurs when there is an obstruction to the passage of air through the back of the mouth and nose. In this area match the tongue with the soft palate and uvula. When these structures strike with each other occurs during breathing vibration, generating the typical noise of snoring.

What are the causes?

Approximately 45% of adults snore occasionally and 25% are habitual snorers. The problem of snoring is more common in men and in obese or overweight and worsens with age. Snorers have at least one of the following problems:

Large tonsils or adenoids developed excessively (vegetation), for example, are the cause of snoring in children. Obese people also suffer an increase in the size of these tissues. Similarly, although less common cysts or tumors can also be factors that cause snoring.A big mouth can become narrow passage between the nose and throat. As the soft palate hangs over the entrance to the airways, acts as a valve and flow occurs when relaxed breathing contributes to the noise level of snoring. An equally large uvula exacerbates the issue.

SYMPTOMS

A weak muscles that cause the tongue to fall back and the muscles of the throat collapse the airway. This occurs when the muscle tone of the person is relaxed by alcohol, drugs or drugs that cause drowsiness.

But it also occurs in some people when they are relaxed in deep sleep stages.

TREATMENT AND RECOMMENDATIONS

As general measures are recommended:

- Avoid a sedentary lifestyle and exercise daily.

- Avoid the use of tranquilizers and antihistamines before bedtime.

- Do not drink alcohol before bedtime.

- Do not make big dinner before bed.

- Avoid getting too tired.

- Sleeping preferably better than your back side. Place the bed tilted up the header.

- Ensure that the people in your family to sleep before.

- In any case the big snorers should be a medical study, your nose, mouth, palate, throat and neck.

- Rx conduct a study of sinus, or cavum in children.

- Subsequently, if there is a cause we must take the appropriate corrective measures.

- Treating nasal allergy or infection

- Rhinoplasty surgery, removal of tonsils or adenoids (adenoids).

- Surgery to reduce the size of the mouth and throat (uvula-palate-pharyngo-plasty)

Health stories from around the world this week include a new method to stop snoring, which is based on a simple injection of £ 3 in the mouth.

The jab works in the tissue at the back of the mouth and give rigidity and vibration stops, preventing snoring.

An estimated 15 million snorers in Britain and the problem is often caused by mouth breathing, because breathing in air pressure causes the tissue in the back of the mouth (the soft palate ) to vibrate, giving rise to snoring.

Being overweight or obesity worsens the problem because the excess fat around the neck, causes the airways to constrict more than normal when you lie down.

Over a long period, snoring can lead to health problems, since these episodes periodically reduce the oxygen increases the risk of hypertension, stroke, diabetes and heart disease.

Snorers tend to use devices from plastic clips to stick in nasal strips to open the airway.

But these can fail because they can not get to the bottom of the soft palate, uvula or bell which vibrates and makes noise.

Doctors can use a laser or scalpel to cut the uvula, so that it does not vibrate, but recovery is very painful and can take weeks. It is difficult to eat and drink for some time afterward and operating costs are around £ 2,000 in private and not always work.

But now a new pain treatment that involves injecting the chemicals soft palate tissue and burn as it heals, scar tissue forms can not vibrate.
