So warned the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) from Belgium, coinciding with the launch of the fifth edition of the Atlas, with the most recent figures and the global day of the disease.

These statistics translate into roughly three new cases are diagnosed every ten seconds or nearly ten million per year and in 2030, one in 10 adults suffer this disease. The IDF also estimates that 183 million people are unaware they have it.

“In some of the poorest regions of the world such as Africa, where infectious diseases have traditionally been the focus of the health care system, cases of diabetes are expected to increase by 90%” this year, IDF said in a statement. He added that at least 78% of patients in Africa are not diagnosed and are unaware that they live with this condition.

According to figures from the federation, 80% of people with diabetes live in low-and middle-income and the highest number of people affected is between 40 and 59. In addition, 78 000 children develop type 1 diabetes each year.

“In all countries and communities around the world, we are losing the battle against this cruel and deadly disease,” said Jean Claude Mbanya, president of the IDF, in Belgium.

“We want the World Diabetes Day 2011, take these facts alarming to the center of world attention. We demand that the public and global leaders take immediate action,” he said.

The disclosure of these figures came after the UN meeting on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) held in New York in September with the participation of 193 heads of state. Diabetes is one of these conditions in some countries, calls for more action to combat it.
The World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated every year on November 14 and the campaign held on this date worldwide is conducted by the IDF and its member associations.

Even this anniversary was established in 1991 by the Federation and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to growing concerns about the health hazards imposed by this disease.

This follows from the balance of the program 2003-2011 which was presented to the Ministry of Health, during the course of the day “decisions, rights and wishes. Advances and challenges in sexual health policy and reproductive health.”

The report noted that in 2006, 78% of hospitals and health centers were offering sexual and reproductive health, a proportion that rose to 93.1%, according to the last record made in late 2009.

Paula Ferro, National Program Coordinator for Sexual Health and Responsible Parenthood, said that the national plan “implemented in 2003 after a year before the enactment of the law that gave birth, put in place a genuine public policy.”

Ferro said that “it is give and convey the tools to prevent cases of unwanted pregnancies in the playing field and watch the rights of all to a sexual health.”

Since 2003, the program distributed to hospitals and health centers hormonal contraception injection and breastfeeding, IUDs and condoms. These methods were included in the 2004 Compulsory Medical Plan (PMO), which works for social and prepaid cards are also required to ensure that their members without charge.

Meanwhile, two years later, with the Surgical Contraception Law joined the tubal ligation and vasectomy as permanent contraceptive methods which all are entitled, without restrictions from 18.

In turn, in 2007 by ministerial decree incorporated the emergency hormonal contraception over the past year, rapid test for pregnancy.

“The program meant to give a concrete response to women in situations of unwanted pregnancy,” and reaffirmed “the commitment to advance the rights of sexual and reproductive health,” said Guillermo Gonzalez Prieto, Deputy Secretary of Community Health.

Diana Conti, Member of the Front for Victory (FPV), argued that the law sought to Sexual Health “to equal a right as the health and sex life by preventing unwanted pregnancy.”

The challenges in a document released also referred to further deepen the knowledge and tools so you can have universal access to sexual and reproductive health, which means make it a reality for all.

Obesity is a sensitive matter.

What is menopause?

Despite the differences regarding the definition of the various stages of menopause, here we establish the concepts that are currently being accepted in the medical environment.

Menopause is the last date of menstruation. Classic definition of menopause sets “date” of the last menstrual period. Only after after 1 year from this rule, we can ensure that women have menopause.

Elimination permanent cessation of menstruation reflects ovarian function and may be due to:

1. A physiological depletion of ovarian follicles, producing a natural menopause.

2. Surgical removal of the ovaries (oophorectomy or ovariectomy), with or without removal of the uterus (hysterectomy), the so-called “surgical menopause”.

3. Complete abolition of ovarian function through the use of chemotherapy or radiotherapy to the pelvic area, which leads to a “chemical menopause” or “iatrogenic”.

When the ovaries stop working, there is a significant lack of sex hormones (estrogens, progestogens and androgens), because it is primarily produced by or
some, and the end of her reproductive capacity.

However, both in the medical environment as well as women, have perpetuated the use of the term “menopause” to name the “period” of life, in which a woman stops menstruating permanently. Even this period he should be called “historic”.

What is called the climacteric?

Climacteric is the transition in the lives of women, which, among others, menopause occurs, and this is the last date of menstruation.

In general, menopause usually occurs between 45 and 55 years, average age about 50 years. In Spain, according to a recent survey, the average age of menopause is 48 years old.

Menopausal age may be affected by certain factors. Genes are undeniable importance, because it has been observed that women tend to have menopause at the same age as their mothers.

In addition, smokers, including ex-smokers, often have menopause at a younger age than non-smokers, while female menopause is usually delayed in pill users

Early and late postmenopausal

When menopause occurs before the age of 40 years is called “premature menopause. Conversely, when a woman has a menstrual cycle until the age of 55 years, is believed to delay the menopause will be a” late menopause “.

Early menopause, both natural and surgical need hormone replacement therapy, effective immediately, because the symptoms can be quite significant and the consequences, especially long-term, dramatic.

The woman who was ordered after 55 years, we need strict monitoring of the uterus and breast, by a gynecologist, because there is increased risk that these bodies may arise because certain diseases prolonged estrogen stimulation.

However, in return, these women benefit from the positive effects of estrogen on their own for longer and so did the prevention of certain diseases naturally with an increased risk associated with estrogen hormone deficiency states.

You’ve had the symptoms and after a period of time trying to remedy the situation you decide to go to the doctor. Upon closer inspection the doctor starts asking questions, conducting a physical exam and probably for some tests. When the results and return to complete the equation doctor if you are sick the next chapter in his life begins.

It would be wonderful if everything can be healed with over-the-counter remedies, but that’s not the case. Scientists have spent countless hours and billions of dollars in treatments work in order to restore their health. We must remember that each treatment has a price both literally and figuratively. When making decisions about your care after a life altering health diagnosis, consider asking the following questions as part of its dialogue with the doctor.

1. On the basis of my diagnosis: why he suggested this medication / treatment plan?
Everyone is different and so is her disease process. You are asking your doctor or health care partners to explain why out of the multitude of choices, why choose this particular option. Most doctors will tell you that this is the “gold standard” of treatment. The “gold standard” is the term used for the treatment used as first line of defense on the basis of cumulative data.

The gold standard has proven the most effective, but you want to know all the test results of its review and conclusions consistent with the data to recommend this treatment. Do not leave things to chance. It is important for physicians to understand that you are not your competition difficult, but trying to get a handle on the details of their specific diagnosis.

2. What are the pros and cons of treatment?
It is important to understand that according to their diagnosis and prognosis, the treatment is not considered a treatment option. Remember that doctors take an oath to “do no harm.” Think holistically to have this conversation. Consider how the treatment will affect their lives. Once you have the information is important to see the list and decide the concessions it is willing to make.

3. What is the efficacy rate of treatment?
The rate of effectiveness is the success rate of a drug or treatment protocol. Note that the doctor is working on statistics, it is the most conclusive data are available. You can ask the question and the context in a way that you ask the doctor “into practice what has been the rate of effectiveness with the prescribed treatment?” Once you have the information you can decide whether to proceed or seek alternatives.

4. What impact me in my daily life experience?
Each treatment have any side effects. Side effects can be mild or severe. You should be aware of this ahead of time so that your decision is based only on health and wellbeing from their quality of life.

At this point, gather information and have a frank discussion with those close to you. Remember that your disease will have an impact as well and if you need support you should know what you mean. Getting their support will help you choose a more aggressive form of treatment that have been most prominent side effects, but if it saves his life is a trade-off many are willing to do.

These questions are only suggestions, not only deciding factors when choosing a treatment options. The important thing is to keep the dialogue open and honest doctor. The limitation of surprises in the treatment will be comforting and help you advance in your journey to wellness.

Health stories from around the world this week include a new method to stop snoring, which is based on a simple injection of £ 3 in the mouth.

The jab works in the tissue at the back of the mouth and give rigidity and vibration stops, preventing snoring.

An estimated 15 million snorers in Britain and the problem is often caused by mouth breathing, because breathing in air pressure causes the tissue in the back of the mouth (the soft palate ) to vibrate, giving rise to snoring.

Being overweight or obesity worsens the problem because the excess fat around the neck, causes the airways to constrict more than normal when you lie down.

Over a long period, snoring can lead to health problems, since these episodes periodically reduce the oxygen increases the risk of hypertension, stroke, diabetes and heart disease.

Snorers tend to use devices from plastic clips to stick in nasal strips to open the airway.

But these can fail because they can not get to the bottom of the soft palate, uvula or bell which vibrates and makes noise.

Doctors can use a laser or scalpel to cut the uvula, so that it does not vibrate, but recovery is very painful and can take weeks. It is difficult to eat and drink for some time afterward and operating costs are around £ 2,000 in private and not always work.

But now a new pain treatment that involves injecting the chemicals soft palate tissue and burn as it heals, scar tissue forms can not vibrate.
