Many people around the world have an appreciation of themselves which has no relation to reality, you may look too fat, too thin, they feel unattractive or with a very deformed nose, most of them suffering from a disorder self-perception.

Also called body dysmorphic disorder or syndrome of image distortion, dysmorphophobia is a disorder of perception and assessment body which is an exaggerated concern absent some defect in physical appearance, or a disproportionate assessment of physical anomalies which could present a seemingly normal.

Fear of physical deformity is a fairly common clinical picture, those with obsessive conviction of having a part or all of the deformed body suffer anguish for his alleged ugliness and tiny imperfections tend to assume a disproportionate importance. Complaints can materialize anywhere delcuerpo affecting equally attractive to people who already are not.

Dysmorphophobia, michael JacksonLos studies show that in 45% of cases the complaint focuses on the shape of the nose, although alterations, imaginary or minimum may correspond to the face, weight, height, rear belly, hair, breasts, feet, hands, genitals, legs, and extended to any part delcuerpo.

This phobia or fear of not having a normal appearance is seen more frequently in adolescents of both sexes and is extremely linked to the transformations that occur at puberty, starting at age twelve and ending in nonpathological cases, to eighteen or twenty years.

The dismorfobia is much more common among upper-class youth with little or no physical defect. Influenced by the media and high current beauty standards are beginning to have an erroneous perception or exaggerated or imagined physical defects imperceptible.

Prevention dysmorphophobia
The best treatment is prevention, and the best way of understanding. Therefore, the most effective tools is an education in the family based on love, that provides the individual the necessary trust and confidence in itself and that both forms for freedom and self-determination, and taking into account not only that which expresses his conduct, but also the needs of each etapade life and the subtle psychological changes that accompany them.

Furthermore, although there is no doubt that the physical image, and now more intense, it is essential in our daily lives, we need to relativize its importance, focusing on other human values: kindness, solidarity, honesty, culture and artistic sensibility.

Treatment dysmorphophobia
If, on the contrary, we have the disease, most importantly, be aware that you have a problem we can face.

In mild cases, support from family, friends or a loved one may be enough to restore confidence in itself, however, in severe cases we seek the help of a professional, either a psychiatrist or psychologist.

There are many types of effective therapy on body image disturbances, the most suitable are those based on the awareness of both the internal and the external space.

Psychological treatment is difficult, but with therapy and / or medication, even accepting that the problem is in your mind and not in your body can recover.

Finally, when in truth there is an impairment, cosmetic surgery, alone or associated to psychological treatment, has proved an excellent aid to reduce or eliminate some of the manifestations associated with dysmorphophobia.

A large number of people treated with cosmetic surgery, have not only been satisfied with her new look, but also found a significant increase in their self-esteem and a clear improvement in the way of relacionarsecon others.
