In an addicts brain is conditioned to associate happiness with the activity or trigger substance. So every time you see, smell, touch or think about the trigger activity, your brain reacts instantly to try to achieve … Because you want happiness! And this order is very strong, up to ten times stronger than I could feel a non-addict for the same act. This makes you feel a very strong need to repeat the addictive behavior … and soon you do.
What to do
Stay away from places and things that make you think can zoom in or detonating activity. Do not force yourself to get away from it, just decide to spend your time on other things.
When withdrawal symptoms hit you, remember what you read above. The feeling becomes ten times stronger than that of a non-addicted … but it is just that: a feeling. Even you who gives the orders in your life. Think about it, take a deep breath and wait for anxiety to go away. You’ve won a major battle if you do.
Also understands that stop an addiction can bring hunger, sadness and, in general, a feeling of being out of focus or have lost something. It’s normal. You are in the process of change.
Finally, and perhaps most important. Fight your battles one by one. No matter if you’ve been an addict for years or if you have made the activity a thousand times before detonating. It is past time, or prefer to call it history. No matter if you fail once or twice or a couple of dozen. Keep fighting and go out. Again, battle by battle and soon you will see that wars will be won.
Account for your family and friends you’ve changed and ask for support. Most especially, ask them not to judge you if you get to drop one or two more times.
